Camilo is a Sanitary Engineer and holds an MSc in Environmental Engineering, both from Universidad de Antioquia (Colombia). His academic training focused on water and wastewater treatment, environmental assessment, and life cycle thinking applied to treatment systems.
Before joining NANAQUA, he worked on the design, diagnosis, and operational evaluation of domestic and industrial wastewater treatment plants, as well as drinking water treatment systems, combining consultancy, applied research, and university teaching. His research experience includes life cycle assessment (LCA) of perovskite solar cells and nanomaterials, and the development of life cycle inventories for emerging technologies.
Within NANAQUA, Camilo is the Doctoral Candidate 15 at Universidad de Santiago de Compostela (BioGroup, CRETUS), where he evaluates the life cycle sustainability of nanomaterial-based water treatment technologies, integrating environmental, economic, and social dimensions. He is particularly interested in bridging laboratory-scale nanomaterial research with representative-scale sustainability assessment. Beyond research, he values interdisciplinary collaboration and science communication as tools to make sustainability evidence useful for real-world water treatment decisions.
