Matthias Miertz pursued his Master’s degree in Chemistry at the University of Duisburg-Essen, Germany, where he specialized in protein analysis within the Applied Analytical Chemistry research group. Driven by a deep interest in analytical science and environmental protection, Matthias is now a doctoral candidate at KU Leuven, Belgium, within the NANAQUA project. His research focuses on developing advanced LCxLC-MS methodologies to detect Contaminants of Emerging Concern (CECs) and their degradation products in environmental waters, contributing to the innovation of sustainable water treatment technologies.
Motivated by the ambition to make a lasting impact on both science and society, Matthias thrives in international and interdisciplinary environments. Through his work in the Doctoral Candidate 13 position in NANAQUA, he is collaborating with experts across Europe to address global water challenges using cutting-edge nano-based technologies. His research aims to enhance the detection of pollutants at trace levels, ensuring safer water resources for the future. Matthias’ journey reflects his commitment to combining analytical chemistry with environmental sustainability and innovation.
